This Triad music teacher is being recognized for her work

MEBANE, NC (WGHP) — The chorus teacher at Hawfields Middle School, Mrs. Westbrook, may call her classes a bit of “musical chaos,” but one look at you and you can tell her students are engaged and having fun.

You could say their teacher was born to do this, after all, her first name is Aria, a song. It’s a name given to her even before she was born by her greatest influence, her mother.

“My mom passed away this past June. She was a music educator and opera singer and the love of my life besides my family. And singing to me in the womb,” Westbrook said. “Brought me to church where I was four years old, sitting in the church choir, didn’t know how to read a hymnal, but I stared at the dots and figured something out. My mom is probably the number one inspirer of who I am today, and I strive to be each and every day.”…
