Unseasonably warm weather persists on Thursday in Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — After matching the record high of 71 degrees yesterday, we will be a bit cooler today. We’re starting with mostly clear skies this morning, but clouds are going to increase through the day.  Highs will stay well above average, around 63 degrees this afternoon.

We will have partly to mostly cloudy skies tonight with lows in the mid-40s.

A potent storm is forecast to march toward the Carolinas at the end of the week.  Expect cloudy skies Friday and Saturday as well as much warmer-than-average temperatures. There is a 50% chance of showers on Friday as highs return to the mid-60s.

As the cold front nears the Piedmont, Saturday will be very warm (for January) with highs near 70 degrees. Unfortunately, we may not be able to enjoy a lot of time outdoors on Saturday because it will be quite windy and there is an 80% chance of rain. There is a slim chance of thunderstorms as well, and the Storm Prediction Center has the FOX8 viewing area at a low, Level 1/Marginal Risk for severe weather. By the time the rain winds down, we could have a 1/2 inch in the area rain gauges.

Behind the cold front, winds will continue to be quite gusty. These chilly winds are going to drag highs down to the lower-50s on Sunday under partly cloudy skies. Don’t put away your puffy coat yet because Monday morning, lows will dip into the mid-20s! Though it will be sunny, highs on Monday will only make it into the mid-40s…
