A sanitation contractor at a chicken processing plant in Siler City will layoff 170 workers next month after losing its contract.
Fortrex had provided sanitation services at the Mountaire Farms facility since it opened in 2019, but that contract will end on Feb. 6, according to a statement Fortrex provided as part of a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) to the N.C. Department of Commerce.
Fortrex expects to offer job transfers to the employees to other plants in the area. The Dunwoody, Georgia-based company did not state where it has other sanitation contracts.
