Triad, NC officials prepare ahead of possible snow this weekend

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Winter weather is possible across the state and in the Triad this weekend, and preparations are underway.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation began salting major roadways in Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Rowan and Stokes counties on Friday morning in preparation for the weather.

The NCDOT is warning people in the western part of the state that some roads, still damaged from Hurricane Helene, may be difficult to salt.

“Some places where it’s just gravel … you can’t salt,” said Avery County Maintenance Engineer Danny Steelman. “If it happens anyway and when it does happen, you have to go back and dig out the gravel because the salt holds moisture and it makes the gravel real soft there.”…
