Live Updates: Everything we know about the winter storm in the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 1 p.m. for Alamance, Chatham, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, and Randolph Counties.

A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. tomorrow morning for the entire FOX8 viewing area.

The weekend’s winter storm is moving northeast, away from the U.S. mainland today. We will have increasing sunshine through the day, and temperatures are forecast to rise to 33 degrees today. The sunshine and “warmer” weather will help to get the thawing process fully underway for at least a few hours. Once the sun sets, temperatures are going to plummet under clear skies, and overnight lows will dip to around 7 degrees with wind chills of 0 to -5 degrees.

We will have lots of sunshine on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs around 35 degrees. Partly cloudy skies are expected on Thursday with a high of 33 degrees. Every night, temperatures are headed back into the teens, and overnight refreezing should be expected for the rest of the week.

A coastal low is forecast to form Friday morning just east of the Georgia coastline. As the low moves toward the NC coast and intensifies, we will have more clouds and colder air pulled southward into the Piedmont. Highs on Friday and Saturday will stay in the upper-20s with lows in the lower-teens. It will be breezy on Sunday, but the low is expected to move eastward through the day. Highs on Sunday will be milder, in the mid-30s…
