One person transported after high-rise fire on MLK Jr. Drive in Winston-Salem, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A fire broke out in a trash chute at a high-rise building on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Winston-Salem on Monday, but was quickly contained by a sprinkler system, fire officials said.

One person was transported by emergency medical services for evaluation. Residents were sheltered in place as crews worked to ventilate the building and remove smoke.
