Live Updates: Everything we know about the snowstorm in the Triad on Saturday morning

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 7 a.m. on Sunday and a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. on Sunday.

An Extreme Cold Warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

Light to moderate snow will continue through the morning with up to 2 inches of accumulation before lunchtime. During the afternoon, we’re expecting steadier snow across the FOX8 viewing area before tapering off in the early evening. Wind is going to be a big factor today, producing wind chills in the single digits, reduced visibility, and drifting snow. Across the Triad, 4 to 6 inches can be expected, with 3 to 4 inches north of the Triad and along the North Carolina-Virginia line.  Some higher totals may occur along I-85, south of the Triad.

Snow will taper off before 10 p.m. and skies are expected to clear overnight. Lows will dip to 12 degrees by daybreak with wind chills dropping below 0 degrees until 10 a.m. The rest of your Sunday is going to bring bright sunshine to the Piedmont with highs in the upper-20s.

Aside from morning lows returning to 12 degrees Monday morning, the work week will be warm enough to get some steady thawing accomplished. We can enjoy another sunny day on Monday with highs in the upper-30s. Clouds increase on Tuesday as another low-pressure system gets organized to the west. This low is expected to bring cold rain to the Piedmont Tuesday night and Wednesday. The chance of rain is 50%. Highs are forecast to climb into the lower-to-mid-40s both Tuesday and Wednesday.

We return to chillier temperatures with partly cloudy skies on Thursday. Highs will be in the upper-30s. This temperature setback will be brief, as highs return to the mid-40s Friday afternoon…
