PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night and will end at 10 a.m. on Thursday night. The counties affected are: Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, and Stokes.
Clouds will be sticking around today, but highs are still going to rise to near 40 degrees. Two lows are going to produce changes across the Piedmont today.
The first low is moving offshore and will produce a cold, northeast wind today. Our high will occur in the early afternoon, then temperatures will fall through the late afternoon and evening. The second low will move across northern Georgia and South Carolina, drawing moisture into the cold air in the Piedmont.
We will have a light, cold rain initially, then some freezing rain and snow mixed in between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium should be in fairly good shape at the beginning, but expect very cold, damp conditions.
Patchy precipitation is expected to change over to snow by 10 p.m. before tapering off after midnight. Total accumulation of snow will be under 1 inch in the Triad, with a glaze of ice possible. Lows are going to drop into the mid-20s.
Aside from some morning clouds, Thursday is going to be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-30s. High pressure will keep the Piedmont dry through the weekend with highs remaining chilly, in the upper-30s to lower-40s.
By the beginning of next week, we may see a break from this cold spell! Highs are going to return to the lower-to mid-50s Monday and Tuesday with partly cloudy skies both days…
