Icy roads lead to multiple crashes in Piedmont Triad; Forsyth County deals with most accidents

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Freezing temperatures combined with rain and snow created hazardous driving conditions across the Piedmont Triad Thursday morning, leading to dozens of crashes and keeping law enforcement and first responders busy — particularly in Forsyth County.

The Winston-Salem Police Department says it is responding to numerous wrecks throughout the city due to slick roads and black ice. As of 9:14 a.m. Thursday, police reported responding to approximately 18 traffic crashes within Winston-Salem tied to icy roads.

Earlier this morning, police said officers were handling multiple crashes along U.S. 52 and U.S. 421 (Salem Parkway), warning drivers to expect delays during the morning commute. Many of the crashes reported have been single-vehicle accidents involving drivers losing control on icy roadways…
