GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services is warning residents after a raccoon in Jamestown tested positive for rabies, marking the county’s sixth confirmed animal rabies case of 2026.
Health officials said the raccoon was found on Harvey Road and tested positive on Feb. 5. The department urged residents to ensure pets are properly vaccinated and to avoid contact with wildlife.
North Carolina law requires all domestic cats, dogs and ferrets four months old or older to be vaccinated against rabies, regardless of whether they live indoors or outdoors.
