WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem house nearly became the subject of a state investigation after a complicated dispute over ownership, life estate rights and an attempted sale left the property vacant, damaged and tied up for nearly a year.
The conflict began late last year when the woman living in the home — who had been granted life estate rights — left the property and allowed others to live there, according to court documents and those involved.
