More than 550 pigeons rescued from Greensboro home

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford County Animal Services and two Charlotte-area bird rescues responded this week to what they initially believed would be the rescue of about 300 pigeons from a Greensboro property. Instead, crews found nearly double that number — about 550 birds — many of them emaciated and in need of medical care.

The pigeons were confined inside a shed behind a home, hidden from the street. Rescuers said the sheer number of birds stunned them when they arrived.

“When I walked in, my jaw kind of hit the floor,” said Dillya Eisert who has worked with and owned pigeons for years. “I could tell way more than 300 pigeons… and I kind of freaked out a little bit. But then it was just, ‘Hey, we gotta get to work.’”…
