GREENSBORO, N.C. — We all know that North Carolina weather can change quickly, but not usually this quickly. Tuesday was a rare day by Piedmont-Triad weather standards as freezing temperatures in the morning turned into short sleeve temperatures by the afternoon. The WFMY Weather Team explains.
A Huge Temperature Jump
When tracking the weather, we keep track of low temperatures and high temperatures. The lows typically happen early in the morning and the highs typically happen in the afternoon, as we all know.
For Tuesday, the morning started bitterly cold. Temperatures were in the mid 20s to begin the day, and at 24 degrees at PTI Airport where records are kept in Greensboro. This is about 8 degrees below average and our 18th day in a row with a sub-freezing morning.
By the midday, warm air surged into the area. We warmed into the 50s by 11am and the 60s by noon. The afternoon peaked in the upper 60s with a high temperature all the way up to 69 degrees…
