Nightly Lane Closures on I-40 in Forsyth County for Bridge Demolition and Widening

Those who frequent Interstate 40 in Forsyth County can expect some changes to their nightly travel routine. According to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), road work is commencing at the I-40 interchange near Thomasville and Clemmonsville roads. This operation is focusing on bridge demolition and widening after crews have completed the initial phase of utility work.

Starting Thursday, motorists should plan for nightly closures of the right lane on I-40 eastbound. These shutdowns will happen between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., and are expected to last five nights, but thankfully for weekend travelers, Saturday and Sunday will be spared these disruptions. Under the bridge, Clemmonsville Road will be reduced to one lane with flaggers present to direct traffic as needed. All of this night work is targeted to wrap up by next Thursday, as long as the weather plays ball.

The NCDOT is advising drivers to exercise caution when navigating the work zone. They’ll likely encounter the barrier walls that have been put up along I-40, setting the stage for the critical work of expanding the roadways and tearing down part of the old infrastructure…
