Greensboro police chief reflects on career ahead of retirement

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson will soon learn how to be just “John” or “dad” instead of “chief” after a law enforcement career spanning 27 years.

Thompson has spent his entire career in the Triad, beginning in Asheboro before joining the Greensboro Police Department in 2003, working up the ranks to succeed former chief Brian James in 2022.
