Greensboro police officer, father of 5 dies unexpectedly after suffering medical emergency

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro Police Officer Lucas Pierce, who spent nearly 17 years serving the city’s District 4 as a community resource officer, died Tuesday night at his home following a medical emergency, according to the Greensboro Police Department. He was 44.

Pierce is survived by his wife and their five children. The department asked the public to keep the family in their prayers and said it would work to ensure the family receives both the support and privacy needed to grieve.

Pierce joined the Greensboro Police Department in March 2009 as a graduate of the department’s 90th Police Academy. He spent his earliest years on patrol in District 4 before joining the Community Resource Team, where he served from 2013 to 2019.
