District attorney seeking death penalty in murder of Greensboro police officer Michael Horan

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A jury will decide whether the man accused of shooting and killing a Greensboro police officer should face the death penalty.

Tarell Isaac McMillian was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Greensboro Police Officer Michael Horan. On Tuesday, McMillian faced a judge in a hearing to decide if the death penalty should be on the table.

Around 50 people, including Horan’s widow and family and uniformed GPD officers, were in the courtroom for the hearing after the state officially filed its intent to seek the death penalty against McMillian.

The DA cited Horan’s position as a police officer as an aggravating factor that warranted the death penalty. The judge agreed that this qualifies. The prosecution said it believes there are also other aggravating factors in this case but did not reference them in the filing…
