If you weren’t sure what time of the year it is, one quick stroll down Clay Street in downtown Mebane might bring you up to speed. At least 19 of the storefront windows have been, or are being, decorated with Easter baskets, flowers and bunnies.
For the last five years, as part of its observance of the holiday — and to bring folks to businesses — the City of Mebane has contracted with artist Lauri Daughtry to adorn the facades of the businesses with fun and colorful artwork. As part of the 2026 Downtown Mebane Eggstravaganza and Bunny Hop, colorful eggs submitted by children will be “placed” in the baskets that have been painted on the windows. For the businesses, it’s a creative way to get shoppers to visit their stores. For Daughtry, it’s another way to express her creativity.
“I think I look forward to it as much as the businesses do,” she said. “It’s just super-fun.”…
