Kernersville homeowner recovering after fallen tree knocks out power: ‘Loud crash like a semi hitting a house’

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — One family in Kernersville is working on cleaning up after Monday’s early morning storm uprooted a tree.

The Winston-Salem Fire Department got a call that a tree had downed a power line along Linville Road around 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

A large tree was uprooted in front of homeowner Michael Joice’s home after the morning’s rain and winds.

“About that time, [we] heard a loud crash like a semi hitting a house,” Joice said. “And then so we all rushed into the hallway, tried to get everybody down like the tornado drills in school, looked out and noticed the tree was down and heard a crash. Then the power immediately went out.”

A spokesperson for Duke Energy said the downed line caused an outage for five customers in the area…
