Sinkhole opens in Burlington on Tucker Street

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — The City of Burlington is dealing with the aftermath of a sinkhole on Tucker Street.

The sinkhole followed the bore path of a 12-inch water line that was installed a few months ago and was about 5 feet by 5 feet, according to a City of Burlington spokesperson.

It was likely created by an existing void in the ground that expanded due to the boring for the new line and the impacts of recent severe weather.

Crews were out on Monday morning, excavating the sinkhole to begin repairs.
