Pittsboro, NC – A man found deceased in northwestern Chatham County on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, has been identified as William Calice Cooper III, 39, of Alamance County.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday after a person conducting agricultural work discovered a body in a field near the 900 block of Moon Lindley Road.
The discovery follows an incident reported on Thursday, March 12, when deputies received a call about a suspicious person in the same general area. The individual fled on foot into a wooded area before deputies arrived. Deputies searched for approximately an hour but were unable to locate him at that time.
Based on the location and other factors, investigators believe the individual who fled on March 12 and the man found deceased on March 18 are the same person…
