Greensboro announces new plans to help homeless population

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Since 2022, the City of Greensboro has invested half a million dollars a year to maintain pallet homes.

Now they’re going in a different direction entirely. The city is starting two pilot programs to help those facing homelessness find a permanent living situation.

The city plans to either keep the homes in storage and use them in an emergency or sell them to another municipality or organization.

“During the winter, the pallet homes never reach capacity,” McNeil said.

Latisha McNeil, the community safety director for Greensboro, says it costs more than half a million dollars to maintain the pallet homes each year, yet she says there were still open beds.
