Man facing charges in double shooting in Liberty

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been taken into custody and is facing charges in connection with a February double shooting in Liberty, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, deputies came to a home on Hollow Tree Drive in Liberty after getting a report of a shooting and an assault.

At the scene, deputies found two people who had been shot. Their injuries were considered to be life-threatening and they were airlifted to the hospital. The shooting occurred amid severe winter weather conditions across the Piedmont Triad at the time.

Following an investigation into the shooting, the following charges were sought against 27-year-old Treven Terrill Benton:

  • Felony breaking and/or entering
  • Four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Felony possession of a stolen firearm
  • Felony possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injuries
  • Felony attempted first-degree murder
