Rockingham County commissioners to consider granting manager authority to hire without approval

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Rockingham County commissioners are set to consider a policy change that would give the county manager authority to hire and fire staff without their approval.

The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners will vote on “amendments to the County Manager’s Employment Agreement” as part of its consent agenda during its April 6 meeting, according to the board’s publicly available meeting agenda.

The amendment reads “Pursuant to NCGS 153A-81, Rockingham County Board of Commissioners has authorized and empowered the County Manager to hire, fire and discipline all County employees. Said authority specifically includes extending the employment of County employees by written contracts with staff that he deems appropriate to retain for employment according to NCGS 153A-81.”…
