Woman arrested after armed abduction, high-speed I-40 chase, Burlington police say

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Durham woman is in custody after police say she abducted an adult female at gunpoint and led officers on a pursuit along Interstate 40 before crashing in Guilford County late Tuesday night.

Jazmin Hayes, 36, was arrested after fleeing from Burlington police and later crashing while attempting to exit I-840 near Huffine Mill Road. She then ran from the scene but was quickly apprehended by a K-9 unit. The victim was found safe inside the vehicle.

Authorities said Burlington Communications received an alert around 10:03 p.m. about a vehicle traveling westbound on I-40 connected to an abduction in Cary, where the victim was reportedly being threatened with a firearm.
