BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man opened fire outside a Burlington funeral home Saturday afternoon following a fight at a memorial service for a toddler, then led police on a brief chase that ended when the getaway car crashed into a house, according to the Burlington Police Department.
Police said officers responded to Rich and Thompson Funeral Home at 306 Glenwood Avenue around 2:15 p.m. after 911 callers reported a fight that broke out following the funeral of a 2-year-old child who died last week. Trevonte Jaquan McGhee, 24, went outside after the altercation and fired multiple rounds from a rifle, police said.
McGhee then got into a vehicle and fled. Officers located the car and attempted a traffic stop, but police said the driver, Cazari Monique Russell, 24, refused to stop.
