PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Skies are clear, and temperatures are chilly this morning, in the 40s across the Piedmont. There is a cold front headed toward North Carolina today, and we will have warmer highs than yesterday, around 77 degrees in the Triad.
As the front works its way across the mountains, partly cloudy skies develop in the Piedmont along with a 20% chance of isolated showers. Any communities that get measurable rain today will probably have less than 0.05 of an inch. We will keep the low chance of showers in the forecast for the evening as well. Low temperatures dip into the lower-50s by daybreak tomorrow.
In the wake of the cold front, a steady, northwest breeze drags cool air into the Piedmont on Thursday. It will be very dry, and mostly sunny skies return as highs squeak up to 70 degrees. Friday will warm up nicely, to the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies.
Brace yourself for big changes this weekend! A Bermuda high develops by Saturday, pumping hot air into the Southeastern U.S. In the upper levels of the atmosphere, our jet stream arches northward, across the Great Lakes and New England. This pattern steers storms well to the north of the Carolinas, which really limits any opportunity for rain or cooler weather.
We will have partly cloudy skies on Saturday with highs in the mid-80s, then mostly sunny skies on Sunday with highs near 90 degrees. (The average high for Sunday is 78 degrees, so we will be running about 12 degrees above normal!)…
