Ethics probe into former sheriff Chuck Wright put on hold until federal sentencing

(WSPA) – The South Carolina Ethics Commission has temporarily suspended hearings regarding former Spartanburg County Sheriff Charles “Chuck” Wright.

According to documents on the SCEC website, on June 10, the ethics commission agreed to a request from Wright’s legal team to suspend his appearances before the commission until after Wright has been sentenced on federal charges he pleaded guilty to in 2025.

Wright was due to appear before the SCEC on Thursday for hearings on more than 60 alleged ethics violations related to spending taxpayer money on personal items, including cigarettes and electronics.

An order on the ethics commission’s website states those hearings will be postponed “pending resolution of the U.S. Government’s federal case.”…
