Coroner: Man rescued from Cleveland Park pond dies days later in hospital

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said a man who was rescued after from the Cleveland Park pond has died.

Officials said 57-year-old David Douglas Thornton was taken to a hospital on June 23 after he went into the park’s pond to retrieve a personal item and never resurfaced.

Thorton passed away at Spartanburg Regional at 6:57 p.m. on June 30, the coroner said…
