SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged a Spartanburg County man with submitting a forged insurance certificate with a construction bid packet in June 2025 on Monday.
Officials said that 38-year-old Cory William Smith was charged with forgery valued $10,000 or more. The South Carolina Department of Insurance requested the SLED investigation.
According to an arrest warrant, Smith presented a forged certificate of insurance purportedly issued by CWS Insurance on June 26, 2025. Smith, acting on behalf of his company CWS Civil Corp., submitted a $402,000 bid packet in person to the Spartanburg County Procurement Division for the Daniel Morgan Parking Lot Construction Project.
