FIRST ALERT: Heat and Humidity Dominate Through Saturday; Relief Arrives Sunday

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Western Carolinas lock into a hot and humid pattern through the rest of the week, with strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms possible, especially across the mountains. Relief arrives Sunday as cooler, less humid air returns to the region.

Tuesday Through Friday: Hot, Humid, Storm Chances

The Bermuda High continues to hover over the western Atlantic, pumping tropical moisture and heat into the region. Temperatures are on the rise with highs in the mid 90s across the Upstate and lows only in the mid 70s.

Heat indices are 100° to 103° Tuesday and Wednesday with a small dip to the upper 90s for Thursday before jump back into the low triple digits for Friday and Saturday.

The mountains fare slightly better, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s, though humidity remains elevated. Overnight lows dip into the mid-60s across western North Carolina. Fog is possible each morning, especially for the western valleys.

Make sure you are staying well hydrated and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded spaces if you’re spending time outside. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Tuesday & Wednesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms develop during peak heating, mainly across the mountains. A few of these storms could turn strong or severe, producing damaging wind gusts as the main threat.
