Judge to hear arguments in Greenville County subdivision dispute that could reshape development approval process

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A judge is scheduled to hear arguments Thursday in a lawsuit that could clarify whether Greenville County had the authority to reverse approval of a nearly 300-home subdivision in rural Piedmont — a decision that could shape future development disputes across the county.

Forestar Real Estate Group filed the appeal after the Greenville County Planning Commission overturned the county’s initial approval of the Owens Glen subdivision. In its most recent court brief, Forestar calls the reversal a “political charade” and accuses the county of yielding to public pressure in violation of state ethics law. The developer says it has already spent more than $300,000 on the project and is asking the court to reinstate its approvals and award damages.

Developer targets resident by name

Forestar’s brief singles out Piedmont resident Aimee McCord, calling her a “scorned neighbor” and claiming she only opposed the project after developers declined to purchase her property. McCord denies that characterization.

“I never entered into negotiations with Forestar on my property,” McCord said. “What a word, ‘scorned.’ Like I have time to be spiteful and spend hours and hours attending meetings and fighting for the community. Also, our petition had a thousand signatures. It is way more than about me.”…
