GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The heat and humidity continues for now but relief arrives by Sunday as a cold front ushers in cooler, less humid air.
Friday: Hot, Humid, and Strong Evening Storms
Another day of highs in the low-to-mid 90s across the Upstate, and mid-upper 80s in the mountains but a change of temperatures and rise of storm chances is ahead.
Expect isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms across the mountains Friday, particularly during afternoon and early evening hours.
A few storms could turn strong with damaging wind gusts as the main threat. This line could reach the Upstate during the evening rush into the night.
Saturday Into Sunday: Cold Front Brings Cooler Air and Widespread Rain
A cold front pushes through the region this weekend, bringing much cooler and less humid conditions. Prepare for scattered storms all weekend, once again bringing the chance of heavy downpours and damaging winds not out of the question daily.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms ramp up again Saturday as a cold front approaches the area.
Showers and thunderstorms develop Sunday across the mountains, spreading across the entire region by afternoon into the evening. One of the more active days as the cold front pushes through Sunday into Monday.
Highs Sunday drop to the upper 80s in the Upstate and low 80s in the mountains. Cold air damming develops late in the weekend, keeping temperatures below normal for mid-July. This gives us a much needed break from the heat!
Early Next Week: Pleasant, Drying Out
Scattered showers and storms linger Monday morning, mainly in the Upstate as the cold front slides south of the area. It’s one of the coolest days we’ve seen in weeks with highs only in the low 80s in the Upstate and the upper 70s to low 80s in the mountains.
Overnight lows are in the upper 60s in the Upstate to the low 60s in the mountains, feeling very pleasant, especially for this time of year.
Both the Upstate and mountains dry out and turn mostly sunny Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs reach the upper 80s in the Upstate and mid-80s in the mountains and the humidity stays low making for another pleasant July day. Enjoy it while it lasts as the heat builds back through the rest of the week…
