2 Greer officers fired for misuse of license plate readers, city says

GREER, S.C. (WSPA) — The Greer Police Department terminated two officers for improper use of license plate recognition technology.

According to the city, Corporal Kareem Lynch and Officer Sebastian Echeverry were fired on Monday, June 29.

The department’s policy on license plate recognition programs is for the use of “public safety related missions of the agency” has been in place since January 2023. Misuse of the technology, officials said, could result in disciplinary action.
