Driver Charged With Felony DUI After Fleeing Deputy in Berea Crash That Killed Another Motorist Over Holiday Weekend

BEREA, SC — A traffic stop in Berea turned deadly over the holiday weekend after a driver fled a deputy and crashed head-on into another vehicle, killing the other motorist. State troopers say the driver who ran is now facing DUI-related charges.

Officials said the stop began around 8:30 a.m. Saturday on Lily Street. The fleeing vehicle then struck another car at Lily Street and Lora Lane, sending both drivers to the hospital.

The Traffic Stop

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy tried to pull over a 2011 Hyundai Sonata on Lily Street. Instead of stopping, the driver drove away from the scene.

Deputies said the short pursuit ended in a head-on collision in the same Berea area. The crash happened over the holiday weekend and quickly turned into a fatal wreck.

Victim Identified
