GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville County Council took up a wide-ranging agenda Tuesday night, including a final vote on new regulations for wireless cell towers, an increase to towing fees, a proposed budget compliance audit of county finances, a countywide road paving list and new development restrictions.
Wireless tower regulations
County Council voted to approve its third and final reading Tuesday on an ordinance to regulate wireless cell towers.
Under current rules, a tower can be built as close as 200 feet from a home. The new ordinance increases that distance to 1,500 feet from homes and 3,000 feet from schools. It also cuts the maximum tower height in half, from 300 feet to 150 feet.
The new rules will be stricter than those in Spartanburg County, which allows some towers as close as 50 feet from a home. In Lyman, towers are banned outright in residential neighborhoods…
