Greenville native Brandi Rosemond dreamed of operating her own mobile beauty salon. While studying to become an esthetician, she bought and renovated an RV, turning it into a studio for her business, Ayaba of Beauty.
Rosemond graduated from the Paul Mitchell School in Greenville in January and posted a picture announcing that her new salon was coming soon. But before she could begin offering services, the state of South Carolina told her the business was illegal.
South Carolina has a statutory ban on mobile beauty services that prohibits estheticians from working outside a brick-and-mortar building. At the same time, the state allows professionals such as barbers to operate outside brick-and-mortar locations…
