GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Today and Tuesday are First Alert Weather Days as we track the potential for severe weather impacting your Monday evening commute and storms, heavy rain still a potential Tuesday during your evening commute. It turns much cooler and dries out for the second half of the week.
Monday: First Alert Weather Day
Showers and thunderstorms develop this afternoon, mainly after 2 p.m. starting in the mountains and slowly drifting southeast into the Upstate. A few storms could turn severe with damaging wind gusts as the main threat which is why it’s a First Alert Weather Day. Storms are slow moving so heavy rain with localized flooding threat is also something we’ll be monitoring. Storms taper off around 10 p.m. leaving us mainly dry overnight. The one exception is in the high mountains where some showers and storms are possible into the early hours of Tuesday. Highs reach the upper 80s to low 90s in the Upstate, with the mountains in the mid 80s.
What to watch: Keep an eye on storm development after 2 p.m. Some storms move slowly, raising the risk for localized flooding along with damaging straight-line winds. Have a way to receive weather alerts today.
Tuesday: A Soaking, First Alert Weather Day
Tuesday looks like more widespread showers and storms leading to it being a First Alert Weather Day, however, the potential for severe weather decreases. Showers and thunderstorms break out again in the afternoon and continue through the evening. The main threat Tuesday is for slow moving storms dumping rain and creating the threat for flooding. The Upstate tops out in the mid-80s, while the mountains are only in the upper 70s.
What to watch: Widespread rainfall Tuesday afternoon through evening creates another flooding threat. Rainfall amounts could reach a quarter to half inch, with higher totals in stronger storms.
Wednesday: The Pattern Shifts
A back-door cold front pushes through, and high pressure builds to the north creating some changes in the forecast. We do get some scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms possible on Wednesday. But the temperatures drop giving us some big fall feels. A cold air wedge sets up locking in much cooler air through the weekend.
Highs drop to the low 70s across the Upstate and upper 60s in the mountains—about 10 degrees below normal.
What to watch: The transition day. Rain tapers off as drier air moves in from the west by Friday.
Thursday: Morning Showers Give Way to Clearing
Scattered showers linger in the morning, but conditions improve throughout the day. Partly cloudy skies take over by afternoon. Highs settle in below normal at around 70 in the Upstate and upper 60s in the mountains.
What to watch: A much more pleasant day. Great for outdoor plans in the afternoon.
Friday-Sunday: Sunshine Returns
Mostly sunny skies dominate Friday and on into the weekend. Highs climb to the mid to upper 70s in the Upstate and low to mid 70s in the mountains. Humidity is low as well!
This is your best day of the week for outdoor activities. Those fall feels are in full effect making for a great weekend for apple picking, corn mazes or the pumpkin patch!
