SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The debate surrounding the name of a local park returns to the Simpsonville City Council on Tuesday evening.
Simpsonville City Park was renamed Gracely Park in 2024, but council members recently passed an ordinance establishing new guidelines for naming city-owned and operated properties. A last-minute amendment backdated that ordinance to Jan. 1, 2023, effectively voiding the measure that created Gracely Park.
On Tuesday, Mayor Paul Shewmaker is introducing an ordinance to alter the effective date, a move that could allow the Gracely Park name to stand. However, council members will also consider a resolution aimed at officially restoring the historic Simpsonville City Park moniker…
