‘Stop spying on us’: Man announces lawsuit against Simpsonville during Flock camera protest

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – An Upstate man held a protest Monday against Flock cameras, arguing the surveillance technology invades privacy and announcing plans to sue the City of Simpsonville in district court after being ejected from two city council meetings.

Matthew Detmer said he sees the cameras every time he leaves his house, which made him feel obligated to stage a protest against the technology and what he views as a third-party overreach of privacy.

Detmer voiced concerns over the over-militarization of police, human error, and the use of artificial intelligence within Flock cameras. He argued that the technology is creating an environment where the public is slowly losing control over their public lives.

The protest also follows issues at city hall. Detmer said he attempted to speak at two Simpsonville City Council meetings, but was withdrawn from the speaking roster and thrown out both times. Detmer said those incidents are why he is suing the City of Simpsonville in district court…
