GREER, S.C. (WSPA) — City leaders in Greer officially opened a new $16 million public safety training facility Tuesday on Hood Road. The complex is designed to support the city’s police, fire and emergency medical services.
The new center was built on a site that previously housed a fire station and training tower. City leaders said the facility will improve public safety services across the upstate region while keeping local emergency responders from having to travel elsewhere for specialized training.
The Hood Road facility features a 50-yard, 10-lane indoor weapons range equipped with tactical walls on three sides to allow for multi-dimensional training. It also includes a four-story fire tower with a removable roof designed for rappelling, climbing and confined-space training scenarios…
