The city of Greenville will begin construction on the first phase of a long-awaited utility undergrounding project along Augusta Street on Oct. 12.
Phase one will remove utility poles and bury overhead power and communication lines along the high-traffic corridor from Lupo Street to Melville Avenue. The project aims to improve driver safety along the corridor while also enhancing power reliability for surrounding businesses and neighborhoods.
Greenville Engineering Services Director Clint Link said Augusta Street was identified as the top corridor in need of burying overhead lines when the city established its utility undergrounding program in 2009.
