GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A man was indicted on Tuesday after escaping from federal custody in Greenville in September.
According to court documents, Joshua Brian Atkinson was sentenced on Oct. 18, 2021, to 85 months for being a felon in possession of a weapon under 18 years old. After serving out part of his sentence at a facility in Bennettsville, South Carolina, he was released to the Alton Wilkes Society in Greenville on Jan. 6, 2026, to complete the remainder of his term.
U.S. Marshals said that around 7 a.m. on Sept. 2, Atkinson called the Greenville facility from a private number and stated he would return by 7:30 a.m. After a thorough search of the facility and checking with local hospitals and detention centers, an escape notice was issued around 10:48 a.m. Atkinson never returned…
