South Carolina actress nominated for Oscar for supporting role in ‘The Color Purple’

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate actress from the movie “The Color Purple” was nominated for an Oscar on Tuesday.

Simpsonville native Danielle Brooks was nominated for her role as Sofia.

  • The following actresses were nominated for their supporting role:
  • Emily Blunt, “Oppenheimer”
  • Danielle Brooks, “The Color Purple”
  • America Ferrara, “Barbie”
  • Jodie Foster, “Nyad”
  • Da’Vine Joy Randolph, “The Holdovers”

Brooks was the only nomination for the film.

The Oscar winners will be announced on March 10.
