SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate non-profit said they need your help now more than ever.
The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen is handing out shoes and warm clothes during the cold months.
Lou Sartor has been the Executive Director of the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen for over 20 years.
She said her mission is not only to feed those in need of a hot meal, but the soup kitchen has recently started what they call a “shoe closet,” providing many with reliable footwear.
“I always say we are feeding the soul and then the soles,” Sartor said. “Imagine someone coming in to eat with no shoes.”
Shoes, they’re something many people take for granted, but not everyone is fortunate enough to have the soles of their feet protected from the cold ground.
Andrea Jefferson, who got a new pair of shoes, said without the help of the soup kitchen she’d have no where to turn.
“I have been out of the street homeless for a year,” Andrea Jefferson said. “I don’t like being out here and stuff, but I do enjoy coming out here and eating and stuff like that. Ms. Lou she looks out for a lot of people.”
