After heavy rains and high winds in recent weeks left an Upstate nature park damaged, fundraising efforts have ramped up. The Conestee Nature Preserve acts as a flood plain for the Reedy River in Greenville.
However, recent storms brought more rain than the preserve could adequately take on. The rains flooded the area and forced trails to be closed.
Parkgoers then organized fundraising efforts, collecting $20,000 in donations in less than a week. The money will go towards fixing the flood damage at the preserve.
Work is expected to be completed in about 6 weeks. An estimated 200,000 people visit the Conestee Preserve each year.
