GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – Some kids in Spartanburg District Five will be going to a brand-new school next year.
The halls are empty at Abner Creek Middle School but next year, the more than 100,000 square foot building will be filled with children.
“It’s laid out with three classroom wings, on the left side we will have a separate wing for 6th, 7th and 8th,” Phillip Dean, principal at Abner Creek Middle School, said.
The new principal said he’s got a rare opportunity.
“Most of the time when a principal is hired their coming into an existing school and they can either come to a school that has a really good climate and culture or they need to do some work to improve that, I am coming into a situation where my job will be to help our faculty create a very positive climate and culture where students can be successful,” Dean said.
Dead added the building’s design will also help to facilitate success.
“One of the things we really want to focus on is student collaboration, getting students to where they can work together, discussion, work on projects and learn that important skill of working as a team.”
