16 year old arrested after fatally shooting man at Upstate motel

More details have been released following a fatal shooting at an Upstate motel, Wednesday night. As we previously reported, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at the Travelers Inn on Chalmers Road in Greenville, just after 9PM.

Deputies arrived and found a man suffering gun shot wounds, he later died at an area hospital. The man has been identified as 50 year old, John Parker.

Investigators say Parker was shot by a 16 year old boy, after he held the boy at knifepoint inside a motel room. While the incident has been ruled self-defense, the boy was in possession of a stolen pistol.

He’s charged for having the stolen gun and has been transported to the DJJ facility in Columbia. The 16 year old has not been identified, due to him being a minor.
