Murdaugh’s remaining $1.7M to be split among victims

HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — Alex Murdaugh’s remaining assets worth around $1.76M are being split up among people who he stole money from and others involved in various lawsuits against the disbarred attorney.

The South Carolina courts appointed Greenville Attorney Walt Tollison as a special referee in the case. Tollison was tasked with splitting up Murdaugh’s assets and after “unsuccessful mediation,” he said he had to decide where the money goes.

You can read the full order below.

“Of course, the Special referee is mindful of the amount and degree of hurt and devastation caused by the actions of Alex Murdaugh to the Claimants in this matter and beyond. In a perfect world, there would be unlimited funds,” Tollison wrote in the order. “However, because the funds in the Receivership Estate are limited, difficult decisions had to be made.”

First to be paid off will be outstanding legal fees, including Tollison’s work on this case. After that, the remaining amount will be split among more than 16 different parties.
