Suspect in custody after standoff at Upstate home

A suspect is in custody after a SWAT team standoff at an Upstate home. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Travelers Rest after a man reportedly fired at Animal Control Officer.

The Officer had responded after a reported dog bite. Upon arrival, 37 year old Mahmoud Ghunaim allegedly pulled a gun on the Animal Control Officer, fired and ran back inside the home.

The SWAT Team was then called after Ghunaim barricaded himself inside while armed with a gun. After a standoff the suspect surrendered peacefully and was arrested. He’s charged with attempted murder and a weapons violation.
